Dexion partners the Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service for
prestigious surf life-saving endurance race
First held in 2013, the Mount Monster has grown into New Zealand’s most prestigious surf lifesaving endurance race — a true test of strength, skill, and spirit. Athletes from around the world converge on Mount Maunganui’s Main Beach each December to take on one of the most breathtaking and demanding coastal courses as they endeavour to complete the race and take home the title.
Competitors are pushed to their limits through gruelling stages of running, swimming, ski paddling, and board paddling — and for the brave, the challenge peaks with the traditional 6-metre rock jump off the blowhole on Moturiki Island.
Damian Cross, Group MD for Dexion APAC says, “Our organisation celebrates the same qualities that define both the sport and our brand – resilience, grit, and an unwavering focus on the end goal. These athletes push their limits across every stage, driven by determination and endurance to reach the finish line.”
“Partnering this iconic endurance race allows us to celebrate the strength of community and the values that inspire everything we do such as the pursuit of excellence and the unwavering spirit to go the distance,” he continues.
Brent Warner, Chair of Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service says, “Our club is grateful to continue our longstanding partnership with Dexion New Zealand, we’re thrilled to announce Dexion as naming rights sponsor for the 2025 Mount Monster.
“Managing and hosting this marque event involves great care, event logistics coordination and cost. The support of Dexion makes a significant difference to the club’s ability to deliver the highest standards,” he continues.
Whether racing solo or as a team, lifeguards embrace the Mount Monster as an opportunity to sharpen their fitness, test their resilience, and chase the ultimate symbol of surf lifesaving glory.
This year, Mount Monster takes place on Saturday, 29 November 2025.
